Preschoolers think differently. As their brains mature, they gain a better understanding of the world.
They also gain the ability to change rules.
First, preschoolers learn to follow a rule. But just because they can state a rule and follow it doesn’t mean they can change to a new rule. This lack of cognitive flexibility is a hallmark of the very young and the very old.
